Best Ways To Make Sure Your Home Is Ready For A Hurricane

With the recent events and multitude of disasters striking the United States, hurricane preparedness has become an extremely important factor to be considered. People are advised to have enough access to food and water, to be able to stay in contact to local authorities while also ensuring that their homes are able to go through a power supply outage during a hurricane by installing home generators.

    1. Having access to food and water – One of the most important things to consider when wanting to prepare your home for a hurricane is to make sure that you and your family will have access to food and water over the course of a few days. Recommended water quantities should be stored, with at least 3 gallons of bottled water for each family member. You should also make sure you will have non-perishable food to last for at least three days. In addition to food and water, you should also make sure to have charged cellphones, a transistor radio, basic tools, and copies of important documents; also, make sure you have a first aid kit in case of emergencies.
    2. Getting prepared with a home generator – Hospitals have their own power generators that allow them to keep critical medical equipment working in case of a hurricane. You could purchase one of the home generators models to ensure that you and your family will not suffer during a power outage caused by a hurricane. The effects of these extreme weather events can cause a lot of panic and major problems in your area, so having enough supplies and a home generator to keep your most important appliances and communication devices running is critical to being able to pass through this event. If you are considering a home generator, you should know that the higher the wattage, the more you will have to pay for the unit. However, the investment is well worth it, as it will ensure that your home will have electricity when everything else in your area is in darkness. You should also ensure that you have gasoline to be able to power the generator, and also copper wiring to safely ground it.

If you want to prepare your home for a hurricane or other major weather event, you should ensure that all your vital needs are covered. Have enough water, food, emergency kits and a home generator in order to keep your family safe during such an event, and in case things go bad, make sure you have an evacuation route established.

    Getting the party started…

First of all I want to say thanks to everyone that posts and contributes their individual home improvement skills and expertise on this website. Secondly, I want to give a ‘thank you’ to Danny Abeman who talked me into finally creating a website where we can all share our ideas with one another for various projects.

Danny’s idea was to create this website instead of constantly emailing one another, digging around various forums, and lastly, having to actually speak on the phone :). Obviously in order for this whole thing to work I’m going to have to dedicate more of my time (which is in short supply already) and so will the rest of you.

So to kick this project off I’ll post some helpful tips that you guys are always asking me and I want you too. Make sure you do or else this website isn’t going to have much of a point.

Thanks for showing up guys and let’s make this happen. Who knows we might be the next big forum website on the internet!
